She was born on April 10, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John Gary and Annie Mae Greenway Hughes. Nell was a life long resident of Laurens, SC and was a graduate of Gray Court Owings High School. Read More	Ruby Nell Hughes Garrett, 83, of The Gardens at Eastside, 275 Commonwealth Drive, Greenville, SC , went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 28, 2010. She was born on April 10, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John Gary and Annie Mae Greenway Hughes. Nell was a life long resident of Laurens, SC and was a graduate of Gray Court Owings High School. She attended First Baptist Church in Laurens where she was a devoted member of the Bible Book Sunday School class. She retired from a career in banking, and will be remembered for the loving care she gave to her family and all who knew her. During her lifetime, Nell enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in her garden, cooking wonderful meals for her family, spending time at the beach with her family in the summer, Clemson football games, and being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Nell leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Patricia Garrett of Greenville; a son-in-law, Joe McCullough of Hartsville; three sisters, Gary Mae Davis of Laurens, Mildred Link of Clemson, and Joanne Boulware of Rock Hill; a sister-in-law, Jessie Garrett Hughes of Gray Court; three grandchildren, Noah Drayton Garrett; Sharon McCullough MacRae and husband Doug, and Susan McCullough Black and husband Bryan; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Spencer, Tucker and Sullivan Black, Ryan and Duncan MacRae, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, Clarence Ralph Garrett, Sr., daughter Cathy Garrett McCullough, son Clarence Ralph Garrett, Jr. (Rance), grandson Clarence Ralph Garrett, III (Claren), and brother, John H. Hughes (Britt). Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Bev T. Kennedy, with burial in the Warrior Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at their respective residences and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary during the hour preceding the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Laurens, SC 29360.
