Arnold, born Ruby Inez Russ, in Conway, South Carolina, July 25 1908, died at the Myrtle Beach Manor on Wednesday April 2, 2009. Ruby Arnold graduated from Conway High School and Winthrop College, and was married to Dr. Morton Arnold for 64 years before his death in 1998. She lived in the town of Windham CT until 2000 when she moved home to South Carolina. Ruby had two children, Morton Richard Arnold, deceased, and Susan Ann Arnold. Ruby was a devoted wife and mother who tackled everything in life with enthusiasm and dedication. She was a life-long volunteer in community activities, including the Womens? Auxiliary to the Willimantic Community Memorial Hospital and in 1964 she was the Regional Vice President of the American Medical Association?s Womens? Auxiliary. She formed and was the leader of a Girl Scout Troop in Windham Center and supported and volunteered at the Windham Congregational Church. Ruby was a founding member of the Willimantic 36 Club. In the summer of 2008 Ruby celebrated her 100th birthday with a family reunion in Myrtle Beach, SC. Ruby survived her brothers, Greer of Conway SC, Winston of Pennsylvania and Carlyle Russ of Greenville SC and, her sisters, Ruth Graham of Conway, SC and Alma Sullivan of Windham Center, CT. She will be remembered by her family and friends as the quintessential southern lady who possessed grace and intelligence and lived a happy, productive and adventurous life. Her wit and good humor, courage, and strength of character have been an inspiration to her daughter and granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Richard Ochs, of Ellicott City, Maryland; granddaughter, Abigail Arnold-Ochs of London, England; nephews, Jack Sullivan, of Chaplin, CT, Carlyle Russ of Jacksonville, FL, Steve Russ, of Greenville, SC, Charlie Graham of Mullins, SC, Freddie Graham of Aynor, SC and Phil Graham of Conway, SC and their families; nieces Peggy Holmes of Conway, SC, Cheryl Carlton and Lynn Tribble of Atlanta, GA and their families; and special care provider, Linda Dickerson of Myrtle Beach, SC. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at Lakeside Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Stanley officiating. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
