Ruth Dilling Forney, aged 29, about the head with a flashlight, the sheriff's office at Lisbon reports. The incident happened at 9:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Forney home, just north of the square in East Fairfield on State Route 7. Mrs. Forney is confined to the Salem City hospital, suffering from shock and severe scalp lacerations. Sheriff George Hayes, who was summoned to the scene shortly after 10 p.m., said Mrs. Forney and her two children. James, aged 9 and Ruth Ellen, aged 7, fled from their home in their nightclothes. They went to the home of a neighbor, Louis Groubert, and narrowly missed being struck by a large truck while crossing Route 7, the sheriff said. Mr. Forney was found lying on the floor of the family home, a .22 calibre[sic] bullet wound in the center of his forehead. Both Mr. and Mrs. Forney were later taken in the Warrick ambulance to the hospital, where he died a few hours later. Her condition is not believed critical. Mr. Forney is survived by his mother, Mrs. J. H. Roose of LeRoy Mich., two brothers and and a sister; Mrs. Mildred Keyser of Columbiana. The body was removed to the Warrick Funeral home, pending arrangements. Mr. Forney was employed at the Enterprise Company in Columbiana. The family had moved from Columbiana to East Fairfield three years ago. The children were taken to the home of their maternal grandmother Mrs. George Dilling of Negley. Mrs. Groubert notified the sheriff's office of the incident and summoned the Warrick ambulance. Medical assistance was given by Dr. Chester De Walt of Columbiana. Private Service Set Saturday For Rudolph Forney Private services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Warrick Funeral home in Columbiana for Rudolph E. Forney, aged 39, who died early Thursday in Salem City hospital of a self-inflicted gun wound. Rev. Karl Hank, pastor of the Wadsworth Nazarene church will conduct services, burial will follow in the Columbiana cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home this evening. Mrs. Forney is confined to Salem hospital. Mr. Forney was born at Ft. Jennings, O., Sept 3, 1908, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Forney. He married Miss Ruth Ellen Dilllng of Negley in 1938 The family had moved from Columbiana three years ago. Mr. Forney was employed as a machinist at the Enterprise company in Columbiana. Besides his wife and two children, James and Ruth Ellen, his mother Mrs. Henry Roose, of LeRoy Mich., survives along with two brothers, Glenn of Windrich, Pa., Kenneth of Kentucky and one sister, Mrs Mabel Keyser of Columbiana.
