Description	:	Rudy was the son of Jacob and Christina (Lauer) Schlepp and was 1 of 11 children. Rudy attended Smith School District #24 thru the 5th grade. At that time it was necessary for him to stay home and help with the farming. Rudy married Erna Zimbelman on September 16, 1937 at the Zion Evangelical Country Church. They first lived on the John Rath farm then moved to a farm north of the Alvin Holzworth's place. At that time it was necessary for him to stay home and help with the farming. Rudy married Erna Zimbelman on September 16, 1937 at the Zion Evangelical Country Church. They first lived on the John Rath farm then moved to a farm north of the Alvin Holzworth's place. In 1939, Rudy's dad Jacob sold them some land, located 13 miles west of St. Francis that he had purchased years before from Dorey Lockard. Mr. Lockard had bought the land from George and Carolina Schmitt nee Holzworth (was a sister to John Holzworth) who had bought the land from Skinner Realty in 1901. All that was on the land was a house and one other building. The granary, barn, seperator house, supply house (tank house) and 2 garages was all built by Rudy later on and in 1948 he built a new house. The old house was sold and moved to town where it was located on the north side of the highway in St. Francis. In 2013 the house was torn down to make way for a new business. Their 4 children all attended the country school East Guerny District #24 thru the 8th grade and all graduated from SFHS. Rudy and Erna loved to entertain always welcoming family and friends to stop by. The farm was the gathering place for many great times celebrating birthdays, Christmas dinners and other family get-to-gathers. Many remembered the great food and that they often left with a jar of moms home-made dill pickles, or maybe home-made jelly, or some of dads home-made German sausage. Rudy and Erna thought it was very important for all their kids to belong to 4-H. They belonged to the Cherry Creek Club and of course the big event of the year was the County Fair. Rudy for many years served on the fair board and for many years was the ribbon presenter during the livestock judging. Rudy and Erna loved the farm so it wasn't easy to leave but knowing their son Rodney would take over, did make it easier. They knew the love Rodney had for the farm, it would thrive for many years. In 1979 Rudy and Erna built a home in town at 614 Parkway Drive. It was hard at first but loved their new house, all their new neighbors, plus for the first time, they were now "City Slickers". Rudy passed away in 1981 at age 68 in Burlington, Colorado. (The Social Security death index record is wrong). His son Rodney passed away 6 years later in 1987 at age 37. Four days shy of 3 years, on March 24, 1990 the farm was sold by Rodney's wife. She had remarried and moved to Oklahoma.
