Read More	Obituary published in the Seward County Independent (Seward, Nebraska) on Wednesday, 07 Jun 1950, on Page 5, Column 3 REUBEN RICHARD GRIGSBY Reuben Richard Grigsby, son of John and Eva Grigsby, was born February 7, 1897, at Garland, Nebraska, and passed away at Fort Meade Veterans Hospital, Sturgis, South Dakota, May 28, 1950, at the age of 53 years, 3 months, and 28 days. He attended - the public schools in Seward and enlisted in the National Guard at Seward, Nebr., July 9, 1916, and was honorably discharged January 9, 1917. January 15, 1917, he entered the U. S. Navy, serving about three years on the USS Brian, being honorably discharged from the navy after a memorial record. He was an excellent swimmer and was employed as life guard at the Seward municipal pool. He re-enlisted in the National Guard, April 18, 1924 at Seward, Nebr., serving until he was again honorably discharged July 28, 1928. He entered Fort Sheridan Veterans Hospital, Sheridan, Wyo., the fall of 1928 and was transferred to Fort Meade Veterans' Hospital, Sturgis, South Dakota, as his health failed. He leaves to mourn his death four brothers and three sisters: Theodore of New Castle, Wyo.; Otis of Blairstown, Iowa; William and Alva of Lincoln; Mrs. Della Percy of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Mrs. Grace Jacobsen of Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Winnie Smith of Seward. Services were held at the Wood Bros. Chapel in Seward, May 31, 1950, Mrs. Nicholas Ress, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Keith Anderson, sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were Chas. Campbell, Vance Eastlick, Ross Gillan, Cernal Miers, John Hughes and William Neff.
