He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a 1974 graduate of Lander University, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and the Lander Tennis Team. Born in Greenwood, May 18, 1952, he was a son of the late Rufus Abner May, Sr. and the late Mary Frances Williams May. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a 1974 graduate of Lander University, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and the Lander Tennis Team. Rufus was named to the Lander University Hall of Fame for Tennis. He was also a graduate of the Certified Management Degree program of Piedmont Technical College. He was employed David A. Crotts & Associates, where he served as the manager for the life and health division. Rufus was an active member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, in which he had formerly served on the Board of Directors. He was awarded by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce the 2007 Chamber Challenge Award and the 2006-2010 Business Community Service Award. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Rufus was an avid golfer and fisherman and always enjoyed a great laugh. He was a loyal Gamecock fan. Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a son, Nickolas and wife Jessalyn May of Indian Land SC; a daughter, Alexandria May of the home; a sister, Barbara and husband Norman Craven of Orangeburg.
