Mr. Skipper was born in Horry County, a son of the late Rufus Lester and Effie Squires Skipper. He was a dedicated Christian and a member of the Aynor First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was a member of Graddy Masonic Lodge #257 AFM and Woodmen of the World. He was predeceased by a son, James Michael Skipper and granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Collins. Mr. Skipper was a US Army veteran serving in Germany as an infantryman during World War II and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Skipper was the owner and operator of Service Barber Shop in Aynor where he cut hair for 57 years and was a farmer. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara James Skipper of Aynor; one son, Rusty Skipper and his wife Missy, of Aynor; one daughter, Cheryl S. Collins of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Sally Collins and Cliff Collins, both of Florence, Jamie Skipper and his wife Angie, of Marion; and Garrett Skipper of Aynor; and one great-grandchild, Sophie Skipper; three brothers, J.M. Johnson, and Cecil Johnson of Mullins, and Billy Johnson of Florence; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday from Aynor First Baptist Church with the Rev. Micah Lane and the Rev. Jerry Love officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Aynor Cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
