Russell Allen Lawrenson, Sr. was born Jan. 19, 1931 on a farm near Moorhead, the son of Darrell and Edith (Anderson) Lawrenson. His family moved into Moorhead where he was raised and graduated from Moorhead Public School in 1949. His team took third place in the Iowa State Basketball Tournament in 1949. Read More	Russell A. Lawrenson, Sr., 78, Mondamin, died Apr. 22 at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital, Missouri Valley. Russell Allen Lawrenson, Sr. was born Jan. 19, 1931 on a farm near Moorhead, the son of Darrell and Edith (Anderson) Lawrenson. His family moved into Moorhead where he was raised and graduated from Moorhead Public School in 1949. His team took third place in the Iowa State Basketball Tournament in 1949. He and Margaret Guttau were united in marriage, Sept. 3,1950. The couple lived in the Mondamin area, where they farmed and raised their five children. He served on the Harrison County Fair Board for 28 years and was a crop adjuster for Farm Bureau for 33 years. He loved meeting the people and the challenges of adjusting. Russ retired after 58 years of farming. Russ was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ethel Mae Wakehouse, Vivian Dunlap and Shirley Lawrenson, who died in infancy. Survivors include: his wife, Margaret, Mondamin; three sons, Darrell and his wife, Lenyce, Lawrenson; Ron Lawrenson; and Russ, Jr. and his wife, Susan Lawrenson, all of Mondamin; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband, Maynard, Stevens, Lawrence, Kan.; and Rhonda and her husband, Ed, Roling, Madison, S.D.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 25 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Evangelist John Lizer, officiant. Music selections were duets, "Amazing Grace" and "Beyond The Sunset" rendered by Tonna Lawrenson and Jason Sherer. Barb Sherer was organist. Honorary Bearers were: his granddaughters, Jami Sherer, Courtney Barker, Amanda Weelborg, Melissa Stevens and Emma Roling. Casket Bearers were: Russ' grandsons, Brent, Dustin, Russell Jared and Gavin Lawrenson and Jason and Justin Stevens and Ross Roling. Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery, Pisgah.
