Description	:	Russell Allen Wiley, 80, of rural Montezuma, died July 31, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. His funeral was at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma Aug. 4. Rev. H. Burr Bryant of United Methodist Church in Montezuma officiated. Soloist Rhonda Minner sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden" with Kathleen Ramsey accompanying her on the organ. Casket bearers were Doug Helm, Steve Helm, Brad Helm, Bill Linn, Aaron Wiley, Chad Wiley, David Wiley and Dan Wiley. Mr. Wiley was buried in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Born Nov. 10, 1919 in Malcom, he was the son of John and Agnes (Larsen) Wiley. He attended Grinnell High School and on May 18, 1940 married Jeanette Benton in Lancaster, Mo. The couple had five children, Russell, Jr., Carol, Shirley, Steve and Mark. The family lived north of Montezuma. Mr. Wiley was a farmer all of his life. He belonged to Montezuma United Methodist Church, Midway Grange and to Prairie Knolls Golf Course in New Sharon. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching ball games and traveling. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, a great-grandson, Shane Wiley and two sisters, Alice Grace Wiley and Fern Beyers. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette and their family, Russell, Jr. and Marion Wiley of Cedar Falls, Carol and Frank Helm of Montezuma, Shirley and Richard Linn of Montezuma, Steve and Jo Wiley of New Sharon and Dr. Mark and Rebecca Wiley of Evans, Ga,; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Lyle and Wayne both of Grinnell and Garland of New Sharon, two sisters, Lillian LeVake and Doris Hotchkin, both of Grinnell; other relatives and a host of friends. Memorials may be made to his church or Midway Grange. (Montezuma Republican, Aug. 4, 2000)
