Hall, 81, of Newark, took place, with the Rev. Mark Pierce and the Licking County Veterans Alliance officiating. Interment will be in Fredonia Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Hall died Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born Oct 7, 1926, in Newark, to the late Clayton Hall and Lennie Jane (Bricker) Hall Clark. Russell was a U.S. Navy veteran and served his country in both World War II theaters. During his time with the Navy, Russell was an armed guard on several troop ships, especially the USS Sea Quail. He participated in the D-Day operations, the Sicilian invasion and several of the Pacific Island landings. Russell was awarded numerous ribbons for his service and dedication to his country. Russell retired from the Licking County Highway Department, where he worked as a foreman for many years. Prior to this time, Russell worked for 16 years with Kaiser Aluminum. Russell was an avid hunter, fisher and overall outdoors man. He was a true friend to many, and above all else, a loving and kind father. Russell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margery M. (VanAtta) Hall, of Newark; his sons and daughters-in-law, Nelson Hall and Lynn Wiley, of Newark, and David and Nancy Hall of Granville; his daughters and sons-in-law, Earlene and Richard Bixler, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Annette and Bruce Hannum, of Newark, and Molly and Todd Sheaf, of Heath; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his stepfather, Leslie L. Clark; and his sisters, Thelma Painter and Helen Smith. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH. Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, is in charge of the arrangements.
