He was born November 12, 1917 on the family farm north of Holdrege in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of four children of Alex Edwin and Alice (Anderson) Enquist. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel Lutheran Church. He was born November 12, 1917 on the family farm north of Holdrege in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of four children of Alex Edwin and Alice (Anderson) Enquist. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Russell received his education at the South Sac School and then engaged in farming southeast of Holdrege with his father and later his son, Arlan. On January 16, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Carlson at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege and to this union three children were born: Kathryn, Arlan and Janice. The family made their home on a farm east of Holdrege. In 1979, Russell and Lorraine moved into Holdrege. He remained actively involved in the family farm until 2004 and enjoyed cattle feeding for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he was head usher for twenty-five years, on the Bethel Foundation Board and past deacon. Russell also served on the Holdrege Co-op Oil Board. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lorraine of Holdrege; son, Arlan Enquist of Holdrege; two daughters: Kathryn Ronhovde and her husband, Ron of Holdrege and Janice Morrow and her husband, Dave of Hastings, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Carrie Veal and her husband, Todd, Kirk Ronhovde, Jeff Enquist, Kelsey Enquist, Sarah Morrow and Abby Morrow; three great-grandchildren: Lindsay and Zane Veal and Nevaeh Morrow; one sister, Gracia Harms of Waverly, Iowa; brother-in-law, Quinten Peterson of Holdrege; three sisters-in-law: Adeline Swanson and her husband, Vernon of Kearney, Nebraska, Gevon Holt of Olsburg, Kansas and Betty Carlson of Grand Island, Nebraska and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Alice Elaine Enquist and Leona Peterson; daughter-in-law, Gayla Enquist; grandson, Nathan Morrow; and four brothers-in-law: Ray Harms, Carl Holt, Marlyn Carlson and his wife, Beverly and Burdette Carlson.
