Burial was in the National cemetery at Vining. The young man had spent several days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cherveny, prominent farmers southeast of Clutier, when he became seriously ill with influenza Thursday morning of last week. He was returned to his parents' home, and the services of a trained nurse, Mrs. F. J. Stodola, of Clutier, were engaged when pneumonia developed. The boy died Sunday morning at 11:40 o'clock, only three days after he was taken ill. A large number of relatives and friends gathered at the home for the funeral and the floral tributes were profuse. The Dysart Methodist quartet, composed of Keith Cold, Paul Schmidt and Alvin and Mahlon Dicken, sang during the services. Casket bearers were Norman Kirchner, Leonard Cherveny, Johnnie Cherveny, Merlin Lutz, Leonard Bergstrand and Dale Jackson. Four little girls, Beverly and Belva Jean Bader, Katherine Cherveny and Ruth Ann Danker, carried bouquets of flowers immediately preceding the casket bearers. The decedent is survived by his parents; one brother, Edward Fred; one sister, Darlene; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cherveny and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Novotny, of Clutier; and nu¬merous other relatives. A twin sister of Darlene died in infancy. Russell John Cherveny was born in Oneida township, four miles southeast of Clutier, February 6, 1931. He attended the school there until his parents moved to Homer township, Benton county two years ago. He attended the school in the neighborhood of the present home of the family during the last two years and was planning to resume his studies in the fall. He was a cheery and ambitious young man and had lived long enough to win a place in the hearts of all who knew him. The parents have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
