Published: July 26, 2008, The Tribune Star, Terre Haute, Indiana Russell Lloyd Strain Russell Lloyd Strain, 82, of Terre Haute, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born on Dec. 19, 1925, in Vigo County, to Lawrence Strain and Pearl Johnson Strain. He was a U.S. Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart while serving during World War II. He was retired from the U.S. Penitentiary in March 1974, after over 20 years of service. He was a life member of American Quarter Horse Association. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean Hunt Strain, whom he married in March 1948; two sons, Monty Strain and his wife Teri of Paragon, and Michael Strain and his wife Christine of Prairie Creek; a daughter, Rita Caton of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Strain of Terre Haute and Larry Strain of Brazil; two sisters, Mary Lou Kester and Judy Cress and her husband Bill, all of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Larry Caton. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial is in New Harmony Cemetery, Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
