Description	:	Russell P. Kernick, Sr. was born in Madison on June 7, 1921, the son of Everett and Hazel M. (Giltner) Kernick. Russell, died in Norfolk, NE., Monday, July 23, 2012 Russell graduated from Madison High School in 1940. On December 4, 1950 he married Dorothy Seymour at St. Leonard's Catholic Church, in Madison. Russell served in World War II from July 30, 1942 to October 29, 1945, on the front lines of the European Theatre with the 80th Infantry 3rd Armored Division. Kernick, Sr. was born in Madison on June 7, 1921, the son of Everett and Hazel M. (Giltner) Kernick. Russell, died in Norfolk, NE., Monday, July 23, 2012 Russell graduated from Madison High School in 1940. On December 4, 1950 he married Dorothy Seymour at St. Leonard's Catholic Church, in Madison. Russell served in World War II from July 30, 1942 to October 29, 1945, on the front lines of the European Theatre with the 80th Infantry 3rd Armored Division. He fought in the battle of the bulge and earned a Purple Heart medal. After his military service Russell began working for Norfolk Maytag in 1947. After 12 years with Maytag, he became a salesman for Arkfield Manufacturing, working in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas. He retired in 1985. Russell was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and was a Commander of the Military Order of The Purple Heart. Russell is survived by: wife, Dorthy Kernick, of Norfolk; children, Annette Crosier, of Lincoln, Randall (Rita) Kernick, of Norfolk, Barbara and Dave Doernemann, of Howells, Russell, JR. (Susan) Kernick, of Norfolk, Becky Hansen, of Lincoln, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Russell was proceded in death by: parents, brother, Raymond Kernick, son-in-laws, Marvin Hansen, and Robert Crosier. Interment was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk, NE.
