He attended East Wenatchee Schools. He was baptized in the Wenatchee Valley Church of the Brethren on Feb. 12, 1928. He was born on Oct. 21, 1914 at the family home on Rock Island Road in East Wenatchee. He attended East Wenatchee Schools. He was baptized in the Wenatchee Valley Church of the Brethren on Feb. 12, 1928. He served briefly in the Army of the U.S. and was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1943. He spent his working life in the tree fruit industry for more than 30 years at the Northern Fruit Company. The heart of the community went out to him in 1997 when, at age 83, he was forced out of the basement room he had rented for 32 years. He spent the last two years, eight months in an apartment at the Wenatchee House under the loving care of his nephew's wife, Rachel Barnhart. He is survived by three brothers, Charles W. Barnhart, East Wenatchee, Robert M. Barnhart, Calimesa, CA and C. Floyd Barnhart, Auburn, CA; two sisters, Gladys A. Garot, Placerville, CA and Betty M. Morris, La Verne, CA; and 18 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert M. Barnhart in 1942, his mother, Carrie V. (Eller) Barnhart in 1980 and a loving companion, Violet Courchane in 1965. Russ will be remembered by his relatives and his co-workers for his teasing and good-natured practical jokes. He was set in his ways and loved the simple life. He was buried in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in his name may be made to the Alpine Boy's Ranch or to a charity of one's choice. Telford's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
