Description	:	Russell "Russ" Rasmussen, 53, of Cairo died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island. Russ was born May 24, 1958, in Grand Island, the son of Donald Anton and Mabel (Mieth) Rasmussen. Survivors are: wife, Jean of 21 years; children, Rusty Don, Christy Marie, Stephanie Lynn, Samantha Jo, Jesse Weldon and Cooper Wade; his mother, Mabel Rasmussen of Cozad; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Dallas Schroeder of Cozad; brothers and sisters in law, Roy and Deb Rasmussen of Palmer and Lyle and Deena Rasmussen of Muskogee, Okla; grandchildren Corby, Angel, Amaya, Hailey, Emily... Read More	Russell "Russ" Rasmussen, 53, of Cairo died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island. Russ was born May 24, 1958, in Grand Island, the son of Donald Anton and Mabel (Mieth) Rasmussen. Survivors are: wife, Jean of 21 years; children, Rusty Don, Christy Marie, Stephanie Lynn, Samantha Jo, Jesse Weldon and Cooper Wade; his mother, Mabel Rasmussen of Cozad; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Dallas Schroeder of Cozad; brothers and sisters in law, Roy and Deb Rasmussen of Palmer and Lyle and Deena Rasmussen of Muskogee, Okla; grandchildren Corby, Angel, Amaya, Hailey, Emily and Aiden and a host of relatives and friends and the many children who called him "Papa Russ." Russ grew up in Cairo and attended Centura Public Schools. He worked for Constructors of Lincoln, Werner Construction of Hastings for 16 years and Hooker Brothers for two years. Russ then semi-retired and began driving the school bus for Centura Public Schools. During this time, Russ continued in the family business of gunsmithing which he loved so much. Russ married the love of his life Jean "Luxem" Rasmussen on Dec. 31, 1992. Russ was a member of the Abate District and NRA. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the time he spent with his family camping and he loved his motorcycle rides with Jean. "Papa Russ" was an amazing man. He always had a helping hand and a listening ear for anyone who needed him. He treasured the many friends and many children he befriended on his bus. He will be greatly missed. Russ was preceded in death by his father, Donald Anton Rasmussen. Interment was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Cairo, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on October 1, 2011
