He was born on April 8, 1928 to Alexander H and Helen in Wray, Colo. Russell graduated from Armel Colorado High School with the class of 1945. After graduation, he attended one year at Western Bible Institute in Denver. After his time at Western, he returned to Yuma County to farm with Winn Cassens. He was called into the US Army 14, 1951, served in El Paso, Texas and in Germany and was honorably discharged on July 25, 1953. Russell married Jean Ann Brown on Dec 26, 1951 at Clough Valley Baptist Church and they celebrated 62 years of marriage before Russell's death. Russell and Jean have four children. He and Jean returned to Cheyenne County after Russell's discharge from the Army to begin their lifelong career in farming. In April 1955 they moved into the house where they currently reside. Russell farmed and ranched northwest of St Francis and continued to be involved in farming and ranching as long as he was able. Russell is survived by his wife Jean, his daughter Connie and her husband Johnny, son Roger and his wife Teresa, son Wayne and his wife Jonneke, daughter Renee and her husband Clint, 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in St Francis on Saturday, Jan 25. Russell has been buried at a private family ceremony at Clough Valley Cemetery, rural St Francis.
