Born in Upper Northfield, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Lois (Joudrey) Lohnes. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 49, Mahone Bay. Born in Upper Northfield, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Lois (Joudrey) Lohnes. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 49, Mahone Bay. In earlier years, he was involved in forestry with Bowater's and then turned to farming on his own. More recently, he and his wife, Madeline, operated a general store in Blockhouse and he also grew and maintained a Christmas tree lot until ill health forced him to retire. When able to, he loved to hunt and fish. Russell is survived by his wife, Madeline (Ernst); son, Ronald, Blockhouse; sisters, Hilda Keddy, Berwick; Freda (Roland) Snyder, Upper Northfield; brother, Raymond Lohnes, Middlefield; brother-in-law, Norman Conrad, Farmington; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Lloyd; sisters, Pauline Zinck, Lorna Goehring, Beulah Glidden, Noreen Conrad; half-sister, Hazel Kelly; brother, Gerald Lohnes; half-brothers, Oswald Lohnes, Asaph Lohnes, Morrill Lohnes. Visiting will be 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Ian M. Wissler officiating. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse. The family prefers that memorial donations be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia or any other charity through Mahone Funeral Home.
