Description	:	SHELTON — Ruth A. Bombeck, 95, of Shelton died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in Wood River. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelton. The Rev. Bryan Gies will officiate. Burial will follow in the Shelton Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bombeck was born Oct. 19, 1918, at the family home northwest of Ayr to Richard and Alma (Krueger) Plautz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in September 1996 and by a son, Richard, in January 1993. Survivors of the immediate family include her sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Janice Bombeck of Shelton, Roger and Sharon Bombeck of Scotia, Donnell and Diane Bombeck of Shelton, and Craig and Sue Bombeck of Kenesaw. Also surviving are grandchildren and spouses, Lori and John Revesz, Bruce and Julie Bombeck, Jeff and Lichelle Bombeck, Lynette Stubblefield, Bill and Amy Bombeck, Dan and Chandra Bombeck, Bob Bombeck, Nathan and Michelle Bombeck, Brandon Bombeck, Derek and Jennifer Bombeck, Lisa and Kerwyn Stewart, Aaron Bombeck, and Amy and Darrin Nutter; and great-grandchildren, Megan Bombeck, Jared Bombeck, Matthew Bombeck, Michael Bombeck, Trevor Bombeck, Bailey Bombeck, Carter Bombeck, Brynn Bombeck, Lillian Bombeck, Layla Bombeck, Jace Bombeck, Collin Bombeck, Graham Bombeck, Sam Stewart, Will Stewart and Alison Nutter. Ruth grew up near Ayr until the family moved to a farm south of Gibbon when she was 19. She completed the eighth grade in May 1931. From that time on, she continued to help with the family chores. She learned to be a good homemaker as she was taught to sew, quilt, cook and bake. Ruth was baptized on Nov. 3, 1918, and confirmed on May 17, 1931. Church was always important in her life, as she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lowell and eventually Shelton. She married William Bombeck on Sept. 1, 1940, at the Lutheran parsonage in Kenesaw. To this union, they were blessed with five sons: Lynn, Richard, Roger, Donnell and Craig. Ruth and Bill lived south of Shelton and farmed most of their married life. They moved to Shelton in 1990. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and going to dances with family and friends. Ruth was known as an avid sports fan by family and friends. She enjoyed football, especially the Huskers, and also volleyball and wrestling. Family was always an important part of her life. She will be remembered for her beautiful quilts, delicious pies, breads, sketties and also the decorated cakes she made.
