She was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Percy and Lulu Harmon Bishop of Fort Fairfield. She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1936. She was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Percy and Lulu Harmon Bishop of Fort Fairfield. She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1936. Adelaide obtained her teaching degree in 1939 from Farmington State Normal School, FSNS, now known as University of Maine – Farm-ington. There, she participated in winter sports, music and was secretary of her senior class. The faculty honored her by voting for her to represent FSNS at Boston College to critique, compare and report back on the curriculum. In 1964, she updated and completed her bachelor’s degree by finishing a fourth year at University of Maine – Presque Isle. Adelaide married Winston C. “Bud” Mar-shall Sr. in 1941 and together had five beloved children. They and the loves of their lives, are Winston C. Jr. “Bucky” and Gwendolyn Marshall of Cross Lake, David B. and Judith Marshall of Newport, Brenda Lou, who predeceased her in 1946, Ruth A. and Edward Sims of Lexington, Ky., and Kathe S. and Robert Adams of Lufkin, Texas. She had been surrounded by eight loving grandchildren and their spouses, CeeAnn Lovely and Rich Murchison, Raeleen Lovely Haley and Gary, Chevelle Marshall, Wendy Marshall Roach and Chris, Nicole Marshall Stout and Sander, Melanie Adams Stewart and Hal, Dustee Adams Knapp and Brian, Matthew Adams and Brittany. She also had been blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, Damian Lovely, Pembrooke Marshall-Holmes, Mikaela Marshall-Holmes, Taylor Roach, Haleigh Roach, Daniel Haley, Flynn Stout, Trey Stewart, Meredith Stewart, Grant Stewart, Kassidy Knapp and Lila Knapp. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews around the country. She was predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, Amos H. Bishop and Roberta of California, and George S. Bishop and Kathleen of Maine. In 1983, she married James W. Heywood of Tempe, Ariz., and they made their home in Tempe, Ariz., for 20 years. Together they enjoyed many trips around the country visiting family and friends or sightseeing in every state in the U.S. with the exceptions of Alaska and Hawaii. They took a trip of a lifetime to New Zealand in the 1990s making many wonderful memories. James predeceased her in 2006. Adelaide’s gifts in life included keeping her family close to her heart at every turn. She enjoyed communicating with loved ones and dear friends by phone, mail and e-mail nearly every day of her life. She marveled at the fact of living her life during the horse and buggy era through to the space shuttle and computer era. Education was her forte, teaching 25 years in the Fort Fairfield school system. She wrote and distributed her life’s story to all her family, going back in time to her forefathers on the Bishop side of her family. In 1992, she compiled a cookbook that is used and treasured by hundreds of friends, relatives and strangers. She belonged to various churches, as she moved during her lifetime, including United Parish Church of Fort Fairfield; Church on Mill, Tempe, Ariz.; and First United Methodist Church, Lufkin, Texas. She was very active in various clubs, among them the Order of the Eastern Star, 50 plus years, where she held many offices, as well as being district deputy grand matron. She was a member of Nordica Club, Past Matrons Club, Delta Kappa Delta Chapter Teachers Club, sang in various places, as well as being secretary of the Millionaires Club of Church on Mill, Tempe, Ariz. She has lived during the past five plus years with her beloved daughter and son, Kathe and Bob Adams in Lufkin, Texas. She will be dear-ly missed by all of her family and friends, near and far. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. by the officers and members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lunar Chapter No. 126, Presque Isle. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the funeral home with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. Friends may also call 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Heywood to Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main St., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742 or to the charity or organization of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
