Description	:	Ruth A. Platt, 92, of Kiefer, Md, died peacefully at home on Monday, September 13, 2010. Born October 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary Ellen (Donnelly) Gillam and was the last surviving member of the Gillam family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hanson M. Platt, Sr. and two sons, Hanson M. "Jerry" Platt, Jr. and Charles T. "Tommy" Platt. Born October 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary Ellen (Donnelly) Gillam and was the last surviving member of the Gillam family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hanson M. Platt, Sr. and two sons, Hanson M. "Jerry" Platt, Jr. and Charles T. "Tommy" Platt. Mrs. Platt was a homemaker, a 1936 graduate of Oldtown High School, Oldtown MD and a lifelong member and ardent supporter of Sulphur Springs UMC, Kiefer. Her hobbies were crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed reading and traveling. Surviving are three daughters, Janet M. Pope and husband Herbert, Winchester, VA., Dorothy Platt, Arlington, VA, Joyce Stanley and husband Howard, Sarasota, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Janet G. Platt, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two grandsons, Gerald Platt and wife Dorothy, Dover, Del., Charles Platt and wife Dionis, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and four great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue Cumberland (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with William G. Piper officiating. Friends were received at the funeral home one-hour prior to the services from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Interment was in Davis Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald D. Platt; Charles E. Platt, Howard Youngblood, Joseph Smith, Frank Smith and Michael Fredman. Honorary Pallbearers were Millard Ryan and Curtis Miller.
