Alene was born on June 5, 1920, in Waldo, KS, the second of five children of Elmer and Bessie (Burgar) Piland. Alene graduated from Waldo High School and earned a teaching certificate from Ft. Hays Kansas State College and taught grade school. Celectration of Life services will be held today, Jan. 25, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Tony Nestor officiating.
