She died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek. ——— Ruth Alma Qualset, daughter of Vester and Alma (Matzen) Magwire, was born Nov. 15, 1917, on the Matzen farm near Tilden. She attended Victor Hill rural elementary school and graduated from Tilden High School in 1935. She was married to Myron James Qualset on June 27, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilden. Two children were born to them: Rita Jean and Ronn Myron. Ruth lived her entire life near or in Tilden until she moved to Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek in 2015. After her high school graduation, she attended Wayne State Teachers’ College in the summers for normal training and taught for 12 years in rural schools in Antelope, Boone and Madison counties prior to her marriage to Myron Qualset. She was also employed by Corkle Farm Supply and Tilden Drug. She worked with Mike in their business, Mike’s 66 Service, for 30 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church/Buffalo Creek and later Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilden and also a member of its ladies aid. As a younger woman, she was involved in the Tilden Women’s Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, playing cards (and winning), and quilting, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family. Ruth died on Oct. 8, 2016, at the Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, at the age of 98 years, 10 months and 23 days. Survivors include Myron (Mike) Qualset, Rita and Ted Griess and Ronn and Deb (Green) Qualset; two grandchildren, Gunnar (Sandra) Qualset and Jade (Travis) Tangeman; three step grandchildren, Cassandra Kanter, Anthony Griess and Chandra Merriman; five great-grandchildren, Jack, Joni, Jaron, Russell and Quinton; and seven step great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Milan Magwire of Tilden, Margaret Paulsen of O’Neill, John Magwire and spouse Maxine of Lincoln, Irene Martin of Neligh and Dean Magwire and spouse Colette of Lincoln. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ves and Alma; her sister, Florence Dittrich and spouse Emil; her brother, Raymond Magwire and spouse Margaret; her sister, Marian Lingenfelter and spouse Alfred, and sister Euna Elaine at nine years of age. She was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mildred Magwire, Edwin Paulsen, Eugene Martin and Marlene Magwire; and a step-grandson, Jeremy Griess.
