Description	:	MONTICELLO, Iowa - Ruth A. Ganfield, 83, of Monticello, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at the Life Care Nursing Home, Valparaiso, Ind., following a sudden illness. Graveside services and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cascade Cemetery, with the Rev. Lucille King, of Cascade, officiating. Ganfield, 83, of Monticello, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at the Life Care Nursing Home, Valparaiso, Ind., following a sudden illness. Graveside services and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cascade Cemetery, with the Rev. Lucille King, of Cascade, officiating. The Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of the arrangements. She was born on Nov. 5, 1916, in Bellevue, daughter of Henry C. and Martha (Bradley) Care. At 6 months of age, her family moved to Cascade, where she was raised and educated. She graduated valedictorian of the class of 1933 at East Cascade High School. She married Roy M. Ganfield on Aug. 28, 1938, in the Presbyterian manse, Cascade. They farmed for 27 years on his farm north of Cascade until his untimely death in 1965. After selling the farm, she moved to Monticello, where she worked at B & G Automobile Parts Inc. She was a very active member of the Cascade vicinity serving as Sunday school teacher and trustee of her church for 15 years at the Community Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Sears Medical Board; secretary of Youth Center Board; co-leader of Cascade Clever Clovers 4-H Club; and very active in the Dubuque County Extension Organization, where she held several committee chair positions. She also was a member of the Monticello chapter of Business and Professional Women. She was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served the state as page, registration committee, usher, and Grand Ruth in 1964, for Worthy Matron, Luella Brammer, of Dubuque. She served several times as Worthy Matron in her Cascade Chapter. Surviving are two sisters, Thelma V. Jones and Mary E. (Wendell) Winchip, both of St. Petersberg, Fla.; four nieces, Wendy (Craig) Werner, of Winter Springs, Fla., Pamela (Robert) Fliege, of Valparaiso, Mary Rose, of Waverly, and Ann (Warren) Schaapveld, of Iowa City; and three nephews, Robert (Mary Ann) Ganfield and Edgar Ganfield, both of Cascade, and Henry Winchip, of Portage, Ind. She also was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dallas Jones. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
