She was born March 1, 1936 in Decorah, Madison Township, Iowa; daughter of Alex Theolin and Mary Hotvedt Throndson. She was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. Ruth married Lawrence J. Forde February 3, 1954 in Decorah Lutheran Church. They moved northeast of Decorah to the Sattre area until 1961, then moved to Hesper, Iowa until 1964. She was born March 1, 1936 in Decorah, Madison Township, Iowa; daughter of Alex Theolin and Mary Hotvedt Throndson. She was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. Ruth married Lawrence J. Forde February 3, 1954 in Decorah Lutheran Church. They moved northeast of Decorah to the Sattre area until 1961, then moved to Hesper, Iowa until 1964. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1964, where she was employed at Shane Nursing Home until 1972. She and Lawrence were divorced in 1972. Ruth earned an associate degree in nursing in 1975 from Kirkwood Community College. She was employed at University of Iowa Hospitals March 1, 1976. Ruth worked primarily in the Orthopedic Dept, also Dermatology, Neurology, and ICU for short terms She took an early retirement October 29, 1996 due to COPD-emphysema. She had a single lung transplant February 12, 2000. Ruth enjoyed people, wildflowers, and watching birds. Survivors include one daughter, Mary (Phil) Roberts, Maiden Rock; four sons, Vernon Forde, Cedar Rapids, IA, John Forde, Marion, IA, Dan Forde, Portland, Oregon, Gary Forde, Middleton, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Lisa Marie Roberts, Maiden Rock, Jessica Leigh Roberts, Eau Claire, Nicole Marie Forde, Cedar Rapids, IA, Rachel Lynn Forde, Harpers Ferry, IA; one great-grandson, Alec David Vernon Forde, Cedar Rapids, IA. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. November 18, 2000 at Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa. Pastor Ole Winter offciated. Cremation was by Cremation Society of Minnesota. Burial will be at a later date in Union Prairie Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa. Arrangements by Fjestful Funeral Home, Decorah, Iowa.
