Funeral services were held at 10:30 Tuesday morning, April 29, 2008 at the First Congregational Church, Anamosa with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Rev. Surviving are two children, Don (Jackie) Duncan, Martelle, Donna (Bill) Cross, Cedar Rapids, 6 grandchildren, Mike and Nick Duncan, Jamie Vanourney, Tami Brown, Carla Cross, Paula Trumpold, 11 great-grandchildren Clay, Emma, Claire, Hannah, Haley, Jacob, Jaden, Colin, Connor, Carson, Logan and 2 sisters, Ethel Craig, Monticello, Betty Christensen, Iowa City, 2 sister-in-laws, Verna Gillmore, Anamosa, Mary Durst, Carthage, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, 3 sisters, Wilma Ireland, Hazel Taylor, Mable Ellen Craig, and a brother Eddie Craig. Ruth Craig was born November 27, 1915 at Center Junction, Iowa. She was the daughter of Forrest and Lydia House Craig. Ruth graduated from the Center Junction High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1933. She went on to attend Cornell College in Mount Vernon. She taught in the Scotch Grove, Onslow and Amber schools. Ruth Craig and Robert Duncan were married June 14, 1940 at the Congregational Church Parsonage in Anamosa. The couple farmed in the Morley and Amber areas. Ruth returned to teaching in 1953. She taught in Black Oak School, Center Junction, Olin and Anamosa, retiring in 1980. While teaching and being a mother and wife, Ruth completed her degree at Upper Iowa University in 1969. Ruth and Bob enjoyed ballroom and square dancing and playing cards. Bob preceded her in death on October 3, 2001. Ruth was a beautiful, intelligent, strong woman who loved her family intensely. She lived a happy, full life and was grateful for the excellent care that she received at Silver Crest and Above and Beyond Hospice. She will be missed dearly. From the Midland Times - 5-28-2008
