Ruth Catherine Jess was born May 6, 1924, the daughter of John and Adelheid Pautsch Bielfeldt. She died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-five. Ruth was born in Denison, Iowa. After graduating from the Denison... Read More	SCHLESWIG, Iowa -- Ruth Jess, 85, of Schleswig died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa. Ruth Catherine Jess was born May 6, 1924, the daughter of John and Adelheid Pautsch Bielfeldt. She died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-five. Ruth was born in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on May 18, 1924, and later confirmed on April 10, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She received her education in the Denison Community Schools. After graduating from the Denison High School in 1941, she taught in rural schools, until her marriage to Orlan Reimer on April 9, 1944. They made their home on Orlan's home farm and were blessed with the birth of two children, Carol and Dennis. Orlan passed away on February 20, 1957, Ruth continued to farm and feed cattle with the help of her father-in-law, Louie Reimer and hired help, Emil Iverson. On January 14, 1962, Ruth was united in marriage to Hans Jess. The couple continued farming near Schleswig and raised ponies and started the Jess Pony Farm Business. They showed ponies and won many trophies at county and state fairs and met many lifelong friends. She was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother who loved being involved with her grandchildren's school activities. She was a great cook, loved planting geraniums around the farm, a hard worker, dedicated and a perfectionist at everything she did. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and the Crawford County Fair Board, and was the person who initiated the queen and little princess contests at the Crawford County Fair. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Orlan and Hans; son-in-law, Ron; three brothers: Bernard; Emil and his wife, Vernett; and John; two brothers-in-law, Clarence and Leroy. Survivors include: one daughter, Carol; one son, Dennis and his wife, Lorene; one step-daughter, Sandra and her husband, David; one step-son, Reggie and his wife, Katy; five grandchildren: Traci and her husband, Kelly; Robin and her husband, Rocky; Mindi and her husband, Brian; Kim and special friend, Jeff; and Jodi and her husband, Mike; three step-grandchildren: Randy, Stacy and Travis; five great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby and Fern; one brother, Glen and his wife, Phyllis; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Dorothy; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2009, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and graveside rites at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Wendy Bumann provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Beautiful Savior," "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Serving as honorary pallbearers were Robin Ellerbeck, Mindi Sieren, Jodi South, Traci Conover and Kim Reimer. Serving as pallbearers were Bob Henningsen, Verdean Kruse, Brad Schultz, James Bielfeldt, Richard Sass and Bruce Held. The family invited everyone to return to the church and join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.
