Description	:	Ruth D. Morrow, 92, died on Jan. 7, 2004, at Libby. She was born on Feb. 8, 1911, at Pateros, Wash., to Archibald Fuller and Rosa Yandell, pioneers of the Okanogan Valley. Pateros was earlier known as Ives Landing, named after Ruth's aunt and uncle. Ruth, one of six children, was born before there were roads or railroads in the area. She was born on Feb. 8, 1911, at Pateros, Wash., to Archibald Fuller and Rosa Yandell, pioneers of the Okanogan Valley. Pateros was earlier known as Ives Landing, named after Ruth's aunt and uncle. Ruth, one of six children, was born before there were roads or railroads in the area. All that was needed by her family came up the Columbia River by steamboat. Her father taught her to be an excellent sharpshooter and her skill brought her pleasure throughout her life as she enjoyed hunting. At Bridgeport, Wash., in 1951, Ruth and her children Gordon and Patricia, and Nelson G. Morrow and his children Garnett and Cheryl, joined their lives in marriage. Gordon Beadell and Patricia Gayle Pool now live in Bridgeport. Garnett Morrow lives in Anchorage, Alaska, and Cheryl James lives in Lake Forest, Calif. Ruth and Nelson were involved in a car accident during the first year of their marriage and Ruth was hospitalized in Spokane for three months. She sustained injuries to her left eye and right hip and made medical history by being the first person to receive a muscle transplant from eye to eye, thereby saving her sight. She was also involved in making medical history through the initial use of sandbags pinned to her leg to bring her hip back into place. Ruth and Nelson lived in Bridgeport until 1961. Ruth worked for Crane Apple Packers and was considered one of the best apple packers in the Okanogan Valley. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and held many offices, including Girls State chairman and president of the Ninth District. They moved to Connell, Wash., in 1961 when Nelson accepted a position on the Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River. They moved to Libby in 1966 and Nelson worked on the Libby Dam Project. When Nelson retired in 1975 the couple spent three years traveling by truck and trailer, visiting every state in the Union along with much of Mexico and Canada. They spent the next three years visiting the Yukon Territory and Alaska. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary they traveled to Hawaii, the only state they had not visited. Ruth was an outdoorswoman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Another of her passions was crocheting afghans for family members and friends. An avid bridge player, Ruth at one time held one of the highest bridge scores recorded in Libby. She also enjoyed her flower garden and was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, followed immediately by a reception in the church parish hall. Memorials may be made to Libby Volunteer Ambulance, the Senior Citizen Center or to St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
