Description	:	Ruth Dobson was born September 6, 1874, in a sod house in Bennett Township, Fillmore County. Her parents were Richard and Harriet Dobson. April 20, 1893, she was joined in marriage to Thomas D. Ackland at the home of her parents. To this union were born four children, May, Albert, Earl and Francis. Many friends and relatives helped celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage in 1943, and in 1953 the sixtieth anniversary was observed. She passed away June 20, 1955, after a brief illness at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 14... Read More	Ruth Dobson was born September 6, 1874, in a sod house in Bennett Township, Fillmore County. Her parents were Richard and Harriet Dobson. April 20, 1893, she was joined in marriage to Thomas D. Ackland at the home of her parents. To this union were born four children, May, Albert, Earl and Francis. Many friends and relatives helped celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage in 1943, and in 1953 the sixtieth anniversary was observed. She passed away June 20, 1955, after a brief illness at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 14 days. Ruth received her early training from her mother, a sincere Christian and ex-New England school teacher, at a time when churches and schools were scarce in the county. Her father, later a member of the state legislature, set an example of honesty she often recalled. She always remembered both her parents with affection and was always grateful for her early training. An early member of Asbury Methodist church, Bennett Township, having joined in 1893, she transferred her membership to the Geneva Methodist Church upon moving to Geneva Township. For more than 40 years, to the time of her passing, she was a faithful member of this church. Hers was an exemplary Christian life which stood as an example to her family and friends. She loved her home, her church and her family. All who remain, remember her as being kind and gentle, one who always offered help in time of need, consolation in time of sorrow and encouragement in time of despair. There remain to mourn her passing, her beloved husband, Thomas D. Ackland; one daughter, May; three sons, Albert, Earl and Francis; two sisters, Rhoda Wild of Grafton and Clara Alexander of Pulallup, Wash.; two half-sisters, Dorothy Watts of Wellington, Kas., and Margaret Morgan of Oklahoma; two sisters-in-aw, Isabel and Viola Dobson; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. All the grandchildren and great-grandchildren reside at or near Geneva, except one grandson in the service who is stationed in England. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. F. E. Pfoutz at the Geneva Methodist Church Thursday, June 23. The ministry of music was provided by Miss Georgia Hamilton with Miss Sharon Nichols at the organ. The songs were "Are Ye Able, saith the Master," and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." The pallbearers were Laurence Ackland, Robert Ackland, Thomas E. Ackland, Frank Rohla Jr., Harold Stevens and Edwin Wild. Interment was in the family lot in Grafton Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 30th, 1955 page 9. Born in Bennett Twp., Fillmore Co. Nebraska.
