Description	:	Ruth E. Lauer, age 85, of Fremont, NE, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at her home at Edgewood Vista in Fremont. She was born March 25th, 1926 to Karl and Marie (Goglin) Sorenson. She grew up in the Carthage-Howard area of South Dakota and graduated from Carthage High School. She earned a wartime teaching certificate and taught rural grade schools in the Howard, SD area. Lauer, age 85, of Fremont, NE, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at her home at Edgewood Vista in Fremont. She was born March 25th, 1926 to Karl and Marie (Goglin) Sorenson. She grew up in the Carthage-Howard area of South Dakota and graduated from Carthage High School. She earned a wartime teaching certificate and taught rural grade schools in the Howard, SD area. She married Justin C. Lauer April 18th, 1947 in Sheldon, IA and then taught in Sheldon, IA, Howard, SD and Rapid City, SD. In 1968 they moved to the Washington DC area where she earned a degree in education from Maryland University in College Park, MD. She then taught elementary school in Bladensburg, MD. They moved to Fremont in 1973 and she taught at St Patrick's grade school in 1974 and 1975, then rural Dodge Co Schools until 1990. During this time and beyond she also taught religious formation at St. Patrick's parish. Ruth was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Nebraska Education Association and Local, State, and National Right to Life Associations. Survivors include: sons - Thomas and wife Kim Lauer of Holts Summit, MO and Gerard and wife Margaret Lauer of St. Paul, MN; daughters – Dr. Karen Lauer-Silva and husband Tom Silva of Fremont, NE and Marlene and husband David Stillman of Shoreview, MN; son-in-law – John Bretzlauf of Gurnee, IL; brother – Melvin Sorenson of Madison, SD; sisters-in-law – Alberta Sorenson of Cheyenne, WY and Geraldine Sorenson of Rapid City, SD; sisters – Velma Wagner of Alexandria, SD, Shirley and husband Dan Barker of Madison, SD and Carolen and husband Robert Weeks of Cordova, TN; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Justin, who died May 28, 2003; daughter, Linda Bretzlauf; granddaughter Mary Beth Bretzlauf; and brothers – Arthur, Kenneth and Glen Sorenson. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, at 11:00 AM at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont NE. Rev. Owen Korte will celebrate the Mass of Christian burial, Rev. David Belt and Rev. James de Anda will concelebrate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 PM to 8 PM at the church and a Vigil/Rosary Service led by the Catholic Daughters at 7 PM on Wednesday at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation continues on Thurs. 1 hr prior to service at church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Fremont Memorials may be directed to the Justin and Ruth Lauer Endowment for Bergan Middle and Elementary Schools or to Life Choices in Fremont.
