She was born May 15, 1927 at rural Sterling attended Rocky Ford District #47 Country School northwest of Burr and graduated from Burr High School in 1944. She worked for a short time at Martin Luther Home in Sterling and then attended Peru State Teachers College where she earned her teaching certificate. Salomons, 89, of Sterling died at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. She was born May 15, 1927 at rural Sterling attended Rocky Ford District #47 Country School northwest of Burr and graduated from Burr High School in 1944. She worked for a short time at Martin Luther Home in Sterling and then attended Peru State Teachers College where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at District #92 near Burr, District #8 at Palmyra and Saunders Creek Country School #11 of rural Sterling. She married Robert Salomans on May 27, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling and lived and farmed near Sterling. She was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling where she was baptized. She was confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church of Burr. She was a member of St. John’s Women’s group, taught Sunday School for 40 years and helped with confirmation classes. She was also a member of Saunders Creek Extension Club and PTO, Sterling Red Hats and the Pork Producers. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities, sewing, crocheting, crafting, making dolls, drawing and gardening. Survivors include her husband, Robert of Sterling; two daughters, Julie Dorn and husband Myron of Adams and Lorie Fink of Firth; four grandchildren, Kyle (Andrea) Dorn and Erin Dorn all of Adams, Kayla Fink and Kelly Fink both of Lincoln; two great-grandchildren, Deighton and Dempsey Dorn; three sisters, Mildred (Eddie) Harms of Syracuse, Martha Brinkman of Tecumseh and Dorothy (Dale) Johnson of Wahoo; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Salomons of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Godfrey and Agnes (Rulla) Straube; an infant sister; one brother, Richard (Nora) Straube; one son-in-law, Bruce Fink; one brother-in-law, Donald Brinkman. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 5, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling with Pastor Steve Chellew officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held 9:45 on Monday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Shannon and Erma Hazen in charge. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling from 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday with family meeting friends on Sunday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling in charge of arrangements.
