The family held a praivate service at the Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in the Platte Cemetery. Ruth Cooley, daughter of Pearl and Clara Cooley, was born on May 27, 1928 in Platte where she grew up and received her education at Platte High School. She graduated in 1950 from the Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD. Ruth was united in marriage with Neal E. Norbeck on September 16, 1950 in Platte. The couple remained in Platte raising their two sons. In 1980, the couple retired in Sioux Falls where they lived until moving back to Platte in 2003. Ruth worked as a Registered Nurse which included 15 years at the Platte Hospital, seven years at the Platte Clinic, and seven years at the Platte Nursing Home. She frequently commented how hard nursing was, but also how much gratification she received from it. She also had great respect for the Platte doctors whe woked with during her nursing career. Ruther was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. Throughout her life, Ruth was a caring friend, dedicated nurse, devoted wife and nurturing mother. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She is survived by her sons: Lynn Norbeck of Jacksonville, FL, and Leon (Rita) Norbeck of Oakville, Ontario; five grandchildren: Casey, Phillip, Elliot, Natalie and Nicholas; sisters: Lois (Dr. T. H.) Willcockson of Yankton SD and Doris (Lloyd) Bakken of Platte and a host of other relatives and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and in December 2003, her husband Neal.
