Description	:	Ruth Ryland, 98 of Lake Preston died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Arlington Care and Rehabilation Center in Arlington, SD. Ruth Eleanor Omdalen was born November 15, 1918 at the family homestead near Lake Whitewood to Oscar and Olga (Colby) Omdalen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church. Read More	Ruth Ryland, 98 of Lake Preston died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Arlington Care and Rehabilation Center in Arlington, SD. Ruth Eleanor Omdalen was born November 15, 1918 at the family homestead near Lake Whitewood to Oscar and Olga (Colby) Omdalen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church. Ruth graduated from Hetland High School in 1936 and from General Beadle Teachers College in 1938. Ruth taught school for four years before her marriage to Orville Ryland on June 21, 1942. Orville and Ruth farmed for 38 years on the Omdalen farm which Ruth's grandfather had homesteaded. Ruth and Orville celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2011. Ruth was an active member of the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and participated in Ladies Aid and Circle. Ruth is survived by one son, Dennis of Lake Preston, SD, one granddaughter, Teri (Eric) Hammill of Ham Lake, MN, three grandsons, Carson (8), Jackson (5) and Dillon (3). She was preceded in death by her husband Orville, parents and two sisters, Helen (Elmer) Nelson and Gwendolyn (Robert) Field. Blessed be her memory. The Ryland family wishes to thank the Silver Plains Assisted Living at Lake Preston and the Arlington Care and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington for their care and support the last few years of Ruth's life. Funeral services for Mrs. Ryland will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church rural Arlington. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston and preceding services in the church on Tuesday. Johnson & Henry Funeral Home
