Description	:	Ruth Ellen COOK Passed away May 7, 2012 at age 90½, with her family surrounding her, just three months after moving from her Ballard home of 60 years to an adult family home in Federal Way. A farmer's daughter of Robert and Ruth Cress, she was born in Netawaka Kansas. She traveled to Seattle Washington by train to marry Lawrence (Larry) Cook in 1943 following a short career teaching in a one-room school in Kansas. Read More	Ruth Ellen COOK Passed away May 7, 2012 at age 90½, with her family surrounding her, just three months after moving from her Ballard home of 60 years to an adult family home in Federal Way. A farmer's daughter of Robert and Ruth Cress, she was born in Netawaka Kansas. She traveled to Seattle Washington by train to marry Lawrence (Larry) Cook in 1943 following a short career teaching in a one-room school in Kansas. Ruth served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post 3063 in Ballard. In Seattle she worked for JC Penny before becoming a mother seven years later and remained a stay at home mom until 1966. At that time she began working in the newspaper business in the circulation department for several weekly papers. The final years of her working life we very joyful; she worked, as Executive Secretary of the Wallingford Senior Center. When Senior Services closed several centers, including Wallingford, Ruth kept the Center open as in independent center by working for no pay as the interim Director until the center was self supporting and could hire a full time director. During her time at the center she became a widow and on January 2, 2000 married Charles Greene. Soon after her marriage to Charles, Ruth retired, at age 79. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Moses Cress and Elsie Ruth Reeves Cress, two brothers Robert and Charles (Bud) Cress, her son Dale Robert Cook and both her husbands. She is survived by her oldest son Neal Cook and his wife Sandra of Federal Way, grandson Mitch and his wife Jennifer of Seattle, granddaughter Janeal and her husband Shane Johnson and their children, Ruth's great grandchildren, Marylla Cook, Benjamin Johnson, and Joshua Johnson of Renton. She is also survived by her step-son Charles (Chuck or Chas) Greene. She was loved and cared for by friends and family, including several of her neighbors, members and friends from Northminster Presbyterian Church and the Wallingford Senior Center. A memorial service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 7706 25th Ave. NW, Seattle Washington, at 2 PM, May 25 with reception following.
