Description	:	Ruth Ellen Williamson Drish, 84, of Columbia, MO., formerly of Ottumwa, passed away Aug. 5, 2012. Ruth was born in Chariton, on July 10, 1928, to George and Dorothy Williamson. She married Paul Drish in Chariton in 1952. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1946, attended one year at Stephens College, and went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1950. Ruth was a homemaker, loving and... Read More	Ruth Ellen Williamson Drish, 84, of Columbia, MO., formerly of Ottumwa, passed away Aug. 5, 2012. Ruth was born in Chariton, on July 10, 1928, to George and Dorothy Williamson. She married Paul Drish in Chariton in 1952. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1946, attended one year at Stephens College, and went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1950. They lived in Chicago until 1954, when they relocated to Ottumwa. There they continued their journey together, Paul establishing a career and partnership to Drish and Davis CPA Firm. Ruth was a homemaker, loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to many. She was a teacher, a parent and lifelong learner who always set the highest standards for herself. Ruth received her Master of Arts degree from Northeast Missouri State(Truman State University)in Kirksville in 1972. She earned her doctoral degree in 1985 from the University of Iowa in American and Women's History. Ruth taught part time in the 1970s and 1980s at the Ottumwa High School and Women's Studies at Ottumwa Heights College and the University of Iowa. She was active in politics and the Democratic Iowa Caucus and National Convention. She enjoyed traveling with her family and husband. After Paul's death in 1993, Ruth bravely continued her journey and traveled to over 19 Elderhostels, some with her grandchildren. She participated in Habitat for Humanity and became a Master Gardener. She continued to attend art history classes at the University of Missouri after moving to Columbia in 1998 to be closer to her children. Survivors include one brother, Jack Williamson of Winter Park, Fla.; one son, Alan Drish; one daughter, Jane (Lloyd Edward) Hart; three grandchildren, Kathryn Hart, Nathaniel (Brittany) Hart, and Patrick Hart; and one great-grandson, Bradley Hart, all of Columbia, MO. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; oen sister, Carol Williamson; her husband, Paul Drish and one son, Steven Drish. Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO. Burial will follow at 2 pm in Calvary Cemetery, Pennsylvania Avenue, Ottumwa. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Stephens College Performing Arts in Columbia, Mo. Ruth was greatly admired and will be forever missed. Her impact on our lives will be everlasting.
