Elliott and his wife, Mina Fie Elliott. Her mother died in a later childbirth, presumably in Hull, Iowa {she died in Hull on March 28, 1900 shortly after giving birth to a son, Lyle}. From Hull, the family moved to a town called Inwood, Iowa {Lyon County} {From Inwood, they moved to Boyd, Minn.} In 1913 the Elliott's moved to Merino, Colorado. At first they lived in town, but later bought the home farm--where Keith Ladd now lives northwest of Merino. In 1926 the sister, Rae, died; leaving Ruth, her father, and her aunt Mary Ann who helped raise the girls. Ruth went through most of her grade school years at Inwood, Iowa, but finished high school here in Merino. She went on to the University of Colorado and received her A.B. degree. She finished the course in 3 years, in spite of scarlet fever and six weeks of quarantine. And more than that, because of her outstanding scholarship was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the highest honorary scholastic society in our country. She wore the Phi Beta Kappa Key with honor. After graduation she taught at Burlington for part of a year, but gave that up and a great deal more in order to care for her sister, Rae, then for her aunt who died in 1949, and her father who passed away in 1953. Ruth was a member of the Merino Methodist Church. For her church, Ruth served this year as Chairman of the Official Board and had served for several years as the secretary of the Board. {Other prior duties & officers listed were: financial secretary of the church, chairman of the commission on education, taught women's Sunday School class, superintendent of the Sunday School, and more.}
