She was born December 4, 1923 in Keota, IA to Francis L. and Lura Bernice Swift Leedom. She married Royal O. Porter on March 28, 1942. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1993. A graduate of Keota High School, Ruth was a homemaker after working outside the home for many years. She had worked at Ottumwa Hospital, J.C. Penney and Target. Read More	Ruth Francine Porter, 89, of Ottumwa, died at 1:04 am March 7, 2013 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. She was born December 4, 1923 in Keota, IA to Francis L. and Lura Bernice Swift Leedom. She married Royal O. Porter on March 28, 1942. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1993. A graduate of Keota High School, Ruth was a homemaker after working outside the home for many years. She had worked at Ottumwa Hospital, J.C. Penney and Target. Ruth loved auctions, sales and was an avid bowler before her illness. Ruth and Royal set up at flea markets and enjoyed antiques and meeting people. Ruth was a devout Christian and read her Bible daily. Surviving are her sons, Richard(Kathy)Porter and Royal Jr. "Bud" Porter both of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Larry Carnahan of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Porter; a daughter, Cheryl Carnahan; three sisters, Gladys, Mary and Betty; three brothers, Jack, Charles, and George. Graveside services and burial will be 3:30 pm Saturday at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Memorials may be made to First Church of the Open Bible. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
