Ruth was born October 5, 1919 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of J. Wilbur Rathbun and Anna (Bailey) Rathbun. She attended elementary school near the farm then moved into Grand Island and attended Grand Island High School. She moved to Weeping Water, NE to help her brother and family and graduated from Weeping Water High School. She returned to Grand Island and worked several different jobs. Ruth and Delbert E. Reeves were married on June 9, 1938 in O’Neill, NE. To this union were born three sons: Ronald, Roger and Denny. Ruth was a stay at home mother until her youngest entered junior high. She retired from Clark Brother’s Transfer in 1985, after working there for 28 years. Ruth was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the church, other charities and was a Memorial Chairman for the American Cancer Society for over 50 years. She enjoyed latch hook, bowling, golfing, watching the Cubs play, traveling with her husband, Del, taking many trips with her sister, Irene and brother-in-law Ralph, and spending Tuesday nights, with the “Wino” group. She especially enjoyed attending as many sporting, music, and any other extracurricular activities her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. Ruth is survived by her son Ronald (Kathy) Reeves of Fremont, NE; daughter-in-law Barb Reeves of Norfolk, NE; six grandchildren Barry (Laura) Reeves of Highlands Ranch, CO; Renee (Randy) Skala of Kearney, NE; Sheri Smith of Fremont, NE; Shelly (Chad) Doyle of Ainsworth, NE; Todd (Holly) Reeves of Omaha, NE; and Missy (Brian) Rech of Norfolk, NE; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Helen Reeves of Norfolk, NE; many nieces and nephews, and two very special friends Betty Johnson and Peg Bendixen both of Norfolk, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Delbert, and son, Denny, in 2009, her son, Roger, in 2013 and granddaughter, Susan, in 2008, brothers Don Rathbun, Ralph Rathbun, and sister Irene Bishop."
