Ruth McQuitty was born on June 11, 1924, in Randolph, the daughter of John and Sadie (Weyhrich) Eberhardt. Ruth graduated from McLean High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Don, while he was stationed in Sioux City, Iowa. They were married on June 18, 1945, while Don was stationed in Ardmore, Oklahoma. McQuitty, 91, of Grand Island, died Nov. 16, 2015, at Tiffany Square Center. Ruth McQuitty was born on June 11, 1924, in Randolph, the daughter of John and Sadie (Weyhrich) Eberhardt. Ruth graduated from McLean High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Don, while he was stationed in Sioux City, Iowa. They were married on June 18, 1945, while Don was stationed in Ardmore, Oklahoma. They lived in Norfolk, McCook, North Platte and Grand Island. She worked for Sears in North Platte and Grand Island and Van’s Electric as a bookkeeper in Grand Island. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruth enjoyed walking, bird watching, refinishing furniture and writing poetry. She roller skated on her 80th birthday and skate boarded on her 81st. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Donald E. McQuitty Sr.; her parents; and a sister, Lucille Eberhardt. Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Sandy) McQuitty, of Gordon; daughter and son-in-law, Debra (Lew) Kroeger, of Grand Island; three grandchildren, Dawn (Brad) Korrell, Rebecca (Jeff) Dowty and Shaun (Cathy Jo) McQuitty; stepgrandson, Lance (Christina) Buoy; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. Cremation will follow. Inurnment of her ashes along with her husband’s will take place at a later date at Phillips Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island, is in charge of arrangements.
