Description	:	Ruth Ione Verboon was born in Hanford, California on May 24, 1915. She passed away on January 24, 2011 at the age of 95. She was one of three children born to Lewis and Mary Francis Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Robert Vernon Powell, her grandson, Michael Mitchell and her late husband, Jake who died in 1980. Read More	Ruth Ione Verboon was born in Hanford, California on May 24, 1915. She passed away on January 24, 2011 at the age of 95. She was one of three children born to Lewis and Mary Francis Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Robert Vernon Powell, her grandson, Michael Mitchell and her late husband, Jake who died in 1980. They farmed in the Lake Bottom area for over 25 years. Lewis and Ralph Powell owned and operated Powell's Photography Studio in Hanford for 98 years. Ruth is survived by two sons, Gary, who lives in San Jose and Bob, who lives in Clinton Arkansas, where Ruth spent the last year. She missed Hanford, and her friends and family very much. She is also survived by four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Doris Verboon and Babe Verboon of Hanford and numerous niece and nephews. Ruth was very active in 4-H, the Garden Club and the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon. She loved to play the organ and piano for church. She also in her younger days enjoyed dance competitions and won various awards. Ruth has made pre-arrangements for her cremation and will be buried next to her beloved Jake in the Hanford Cemetery. She will be greatly missed and leaves behind a loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories and friends. A memorial will be held at a later date.
