Read More	Ruth Julius, 96 Oct. 22, 1915 - March 20, 2012 CROWLEY, TX –– Ruth Irene Julius was born on October 22, 1915 to James and Emma (Peterson) Bartelson in Polk Township, Shelby County. She attended country school at Polk No. 1 and graduated from Audubon High School with the Class of 1933. While attending high school, she lived with the family of Dr. Jensen in Audubon. She attended Iowa State Teachers College summer school in Cedar Falls, and taught elementary school in the Shelby County School system for four years. She was a member of Merrill's Grove Baptist Church until it closed in July of 1990. She then transferred to First Baptist Church in Harlan. Ruth was married to Victor Julius on September 6, 1938 in Lincoln, NE at the First Baptist Church. Two children were born to this union: Meredith and Clark. They lived and farmed one and one half miles north of Fiscus and lived on this 320 acre farm until their retirement in April of 1980 when they moved into Harlan. Ruth received a certificate and pin at the recent annual meeting of the American Cancer Society, Iowa Division, for five years of consecutive volunteer service as the Shelby County Unit Chairman. Ruth has been active in the Shelby County Unit for many years, serving in all capacities. She was also nominated for an award in recognition of her outstanding efforts in the progress of cancer control by the Shelby County Board of Directors. The award known as the Harold W. Morgan Outstanding Volunteer Award is given in honor of Dr. Morgan as founding father of the American Cancer Society in Iowa. After Victor's death in 2006, Ruth continued to live at the Crowley Nursing Home in Crowley, TX. This is where she died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, having attained the age of ninety-six years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Meredith Julius, and son, Clark Julius.
