Ruth Jane Vaughan Ricke Johnson was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of August and Lillie (Christensen) Vaughan. She grew up and attended school in Ogden before moving to Wesley in 1941. On June 16, 1941, Ruth was united in marriage to Edward Lewis Ricke at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ogden. After their marriage, they lived in Wesley before moving to Boone in 1951 and then returning to Wesley in 1955. Edward died in October 22, 1964. Ruth continued to live in Wesley and worked at Winnebago Industries for 16 years. On Feb. 11, 1984, she was united in marriage to Ivan E. Johnson and they lived on a farm near Wesley. She moved to Algona in February of 2001, shortly after Ivan's death on July 26, 2000. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and being at home with her feline companion, Freckles. She spent much of her time making quilts and sharing them with her family. Ruth was a member of St. Cecelia Parish. Ruth died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa. She was 88. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Joan and Gerald Morgan of River Junction, Rose Ricke of Des Moines, Henry and Janet Ricke of Algona; stepchildren, Steve and Clair Johnson of Connersville, Ind., Ronald and Edie Johnson of Wesley, Roland and Kathy Johnson of Mennard, Texas, Sigrid Johnson and friend Leo Walding of Woodbury, Minn.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Anna Carlson of Clarinda, Dorothy Clause of Jefferson and Agnes Lowe of Adel. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; son-in-law, Charles Ricke; sisters, Luella Earl, Mercedes Baker, Mary Vaughan, Rose McClain and Delores Cary; and a brother, Leonard Vaughan.
