She received her education from a country school near her home. On October 16, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage with Roy Rudolph Mennen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She also was a volunteer at Allen Hospital in Waterloo for 25 years. Ruth was a member of First Reformed Church in Aplington. She was a great cook and baker, especially her sugar cookies. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and always enjoyed watching Hawkeye football games. Her Grandson, Samuel was the love of her life. Ruth died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Western Home Martin Center in Cedar Falls of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Mennen who died September 21, 1996, parents, and one sister, Dorothy Karsjens. Ruth is survived by one son, Sidney Mennen of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Sheila Mennen of North Liberty; one grandson, Samuel Mennen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the First Reformed Church, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, (319)347-6275, and one hour before services at the church.
