Visitation was from 5-7:00 PM Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Ruth Leona was born April 7, 1923 in Sioux Falls to parents Johannes and Clara (Schjodt) Orstad. She married Melvin Byg November 29, 1942. They lived and farmed in the Hartford area, where she was a very active farm wife. Ruth was an active member of West Nidaros Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Rosemary (Gilbert) Mohrhauser, Hartford; Jerald (Alta) Byg, Ames, Iowa; Elizabeth (Alan) Van Liere, Litchfield, Minnesota; and Evelyn (John) Holdaway, Rapid City; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren, and her wonderful neighbors, Stephan and Janet Helgaas and Clare and Caroline Vollan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melvin, brothers, Orville Orstad and Maurice Myrmoe, and a grandson-in-law, Shawn Schwaller.
