She was born March 25, 1929, in Abilene to Charles and Neva Chapman. Ruth attended Abilene public schools. After graduation from Abilene High School, Ruth met and married the love of her life, Raymond “Ray” Kooken, on Oct. 10, 1947. Ruth spent the majority of her married life in Abilene as a homemaker. She also travelled with Ray in his semi-truck throughout the United States. Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed working in her yard, baking her delicious treats and cooking meals for her family; sewing simple patches to doll clothes to formal ball gowns; and designing and making crafts with and for her friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and extended family. She is survived by her son, Randy Kooken (Tina) of Justin Texas; her daughter, Janet Waugh (Terrance) of Abilene; her son-in-law, Joseph Collie of Abilene; her daughters-in-law, JayLynn Kooken of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Donna Kooken of Fort Worth, Texas; her grandchildren, Jeff Collie (Lori) of Solomon, Tina Tanner (Todd) of Abilene, Tony Collie of Abilene, Laura Alexander (Jeff) of Flower Mound, Texas, Jason Kooken of Abilene, Carie Pierpoint (Wade) of Claremore, Okla., Lyndsay Dukes (Ryan) of Oklahoma City, and Kody Kooken of Oklahoma City; her siblings, Gene Chapman (Marie) of Salina, Betty Knepper of Mansfield, Texas, and Delores Willis of Abilene; 11 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Kooken; her parents, Charles and Neva Chapman; her daughter, Candace “Candy” Collie; her son, Lawrence “Larry” Kooken; and her siblings, Kenneth Chapman and Virginia Koon. A private family memorial will be held May 19. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Ray Kooken, at the Abilene Cemetery.
