Read More	This obituary was published in "The Hawkeye" March 6, 2004: Ruth M. Newberry, 79, of Marshalltown, formerly of Fort Madison, died at 4:53 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at her home. Born Oct. 19, 1924, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Oliver Neal and Rose Poetting Coulson. On Jan. 19, 1947, she married Dale A. Newberry in Fort Madison. Mrs. Newberry retired from the Santa Fe Railroad. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a founding member of Fort Madison Art Center, member of Burlington and Keokuk art centers, Iowa Artists, PEO, Marshalltown Art Center and was previously active in King's Daughters. Her passion was art, especially working in watercolor, pastels and sketching. This included working to design stained glass windows and other pieces. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Candace Grosz of Denver, Judith Newberry of St. Paul, and Ann Feilmann of Marshalltown; three grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Hayles of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Visitation was Tuesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison. The memorial service for was at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Madison, with the Rev. Elliott George officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison. Memorials have been established for Fort Madison Arts Center, First United Methodist Church of Fort Madison and Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.
