Fissgus February 24, 1918 - April 25, 2005 Ruth M. Fissgus, 87, of E. Dunn Road in New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 8:30pm Monday, April 25, 2005 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, IN. She was born on February 24, 1918 to the late Franklin and Alpha (Nelson) Shank in Derby, MI. She has lived in New Carlisle since 1976, coming from South Bend. Along with her parents; one sister, Bessie Erwin; and one brother, Glenn Shank preceded her in death. On June 8, 1938, as Ruth M. Shank, she married John W. Fissgus in LaPorte, IN. He died on July 18, 1988. Ruth is survived by one daughter, Janet Sue (Ted) Tappan of New Carlisle, IN; one granddaughter, Cheryl Sue (Bruce) Cox of New Carlisle, IN; and two great grandchildren, Jenna Sue Cox and Tyler Wayne Cox, both of New Carlisle, IN. Mrs. Fissgus was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Bend; and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in New Carlisle. Ruth graduated in 1937 from Benton Harbor High School in Benton Harbor, MI. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8pm Friday, April 29, 2005 in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Bend, IN, with Pastor Karen Brugler officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Chapel Cemetery, New Carlisle, IN. Per Ruth's request, Memorial Contributions may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501 West Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.,111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637
