Description	:	Ruth Margaret Reiten Peterson, 92, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2013, in Tucson, AZ, with her family by her side. She was an educator. She was the youngest of four children born to Ole and Sophia Mahlum Reiten on September 14, 1921, in Hastings, ND. Ruth attended Hastings' schools graduating in 1939, and entered Valley City State Teacher's College that fall. They were married for 57 years before... Read More	Ruth Margaret Reiten Peterson, 92, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2013, in Tucson, AZ, with her family by her side. She was an educator. She was the youngest of four children born to Ole and Sophia Mahlum Reiten on September 14, 1921, in Hastings, ND. Ruth attended Hastings' schools graduating in 1939, and entered Valley City State Teacher's College that fall. She received a two-year standard degree in 1941, and was offered a 1st grade teaching position at Maddock, ND. On November 26, 1942, she married Loyde G. Peterson of Nome, ND. They were married for 57 years before his passing in 2000. Ruth taught in several school systems throughout the state of North Dakota, and in 1961, the family moved to Jamestown. Ruth returned to college and received a Bachelor of Science in 1968. While working at the Anne Carlson Center in Jamestown, Ruth was offered a fellowship for a master's degree at the University of North Dakota and received a Master of Education in 1973. She was then appointed Director of Special Education for Stutsman County. In 1975, the couple moved to Mayville, ND, where Ruth was Associate Professor of Special Education until she and Loyde retired in 1987, and relocated to Arizona. Ruth loved to garden and was an avid reader. She was very active in her church, and her faith in God sustained, uplifted, and comforted her throughout her life. She is deeply missed. Preceded in death by her husband, Loyde, parents, Sophie and Ole Reiten, brother Ossie Reiten and his wife Hazel, sisters, Jullian Bull and her husband Carlos, and Emma Rebhahn and her husband Bud. Ruth is survived by her children Rita (Roy) Pallatt, Linda (Nicholas) Peterson Vrooman, L. Gregory (Sharon) Peterson, Sara (Jay) Bondesen, W. Scott (Diana) Peterson, and Mariann (Darren) Duff, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private service was held in Tucson, Arizona. On July 7, 2014, at 2:00 pm, Ruth's and Loyde's ashes will be interred at Spring Creek Cemetery, Hastings, North Dakota.
