A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2011, at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Ruth was born on June 6, 1923, in Butler County, Nebraska, to Alfred and Ada (Kruger) Beierle. She graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1941. Saalfeld, 87, of Richland, Nebraska, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Clarkson, Nebraska. Ruth was born on June 6, 1923, in Butler County, Nebraska, to Alfred and Ada (Kruger) Beierle. She graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1941. On October 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Clayton Saalfeld in Columbus, Nebraska. Clayton was drafted soon after, and while he was serving his country, she worked at the ammunition plant in Grand Island making shells for the war. She also helped at the Saalfeld family grocery store in Richland. They made their home in Omaha after Clayton returned from the service. She worked as a bookkeeper in Omaha until they moved back to Richland in the late 1950's. Ruth then worked as a bookkeeper for Richland Grain and Hassebrook Farm Service. In her younger years Ruth enjoyed bingo, horse races, dancing, and crocheting. In her later years she enjoyed talking on the phone and going for coffee with her friends. But most of all Ruth loved her grandchildren. Ruth is survived by: Daughter: Kelli (Randy) Arnold of Clarkson, NE Granddaughter: Courtney (Brent) Koch of Dakota Dunes, SD Grandson: Jay Arnold of Wayne, NE Ruth was preceded in death by: Parents: Alfred and Ada Beierle Husband: Clayton Saalfeld Half sister: Fern Beierle
