Description	:	Ruth Marie (Ligtenberg) Fridsma, age 92, a long-time resident of Escalon, California, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, February 10, 2013. Ruth was born on April 23, 1920, near Corsica, South Dakota, to Henry and Anna Ligtenberg. She was the ninth of ten children. Read More	Ruth Marie (Ligtenberg) Fridsma, age 92, a long-time resident of Escalon, California, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, February 10, 2013. Ruth was born on April 23, 1920, near Corsica, South Dakota, to Henry and Anna Ligtenberg. She was the ninth of ten children. Ruth received her teaching credentials from Southern State Normal in Springfield, South Dakota, then taught in the same one-room school she attended as a child. In 1942 Ruth moved with her parents to Bellflower, California, leaving behind the Dust Bowl. During World War II, she worked for two years at Douglas Aircraft, using a power screw driver on the wing assembly crew and rubbing shoulders with Rosie the Riveter. In 1944 she left to care for her mother, who was ill with cancer. Ruth married Jacob Fridsma, a World War II prisoner of war and veteran in 1946. God blessed them with three daughters, Anne Marie, Joyce, and Laura Sue. Ruth and Jake packed up the girls for many camping trips across the United States, pulling a fifteen foot trailer. In 1963 her husband passed away and Ruth remained widowed for the next fifty years, always saying she was a one-man woman. Following Jacob's death, she reestablished herself in a working career at Bellflower National Bank and later with the Los Angeles County Animal Control. In 1980 Ruth retired to Escalon, California. She relished the farming community and seeing her grandchildren on a daily basis. She attended the Escalon Christian Reformed Church where she enjoyed the preaching of God's Word every Sunday, sharing her days with new friends and serving in her church. Ruth was quiet and soft-spoken, committed to her Lord and Savior, a prayer warrior for her family. She was loved deeply by her daughters and grandchildren. Ruth went home to be with the Lord and rejoin her beloved husband, Jake, on February 10, 2013. Ruth was preceded in death by all nine of her siblings. She is survived by her three daughters, Anne Marie Danhoff (Doug) of Oakdale, California, Joyce DeVries (Bud) of Santa Ana, California, and Laura Nelson(Ron) of Escalon, California; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. The family is truly thankful for the many prayers and acts of kindness by friends and family. A viewing will be held Sunday, February 17, from 3-5 p.m. at Deegan's Funeral Chapel in Escalon. Graveside services will be held at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon on February 18, 10 a.m., a memorial service at Escalon Christian Reformed Church at 11:00 a.m., followed by a lunch reception.
